A lot has happened since my last communication with you but before I go on, I have some fantastic news to share with you. The International Society for Burn Injuries and the British Burn Association have signed an agreement to co-host the 2024 ISBI/BBA Congress in Birmingham, UK. This will be the 22nd ISBI Congress and the 55th Annual BBA Meeting. Dr. Odhran Shelley, President of the BBA, and myself are both very excited about the 2024 Congress and we invite you all to attend what promises to be a historic event. The local Organizing Committee, under the direction of Dr. Moiemen and the Program Committee, under the direction of Dr. Harrington have already began planning the 2024 ISBI/BBA Congress which will be held on August 18-22, 2024.
During our most recent Executive Committee Meeting, we have awarded our colleagues from Chile the 23rd ISBI Congress that will be held in Santiago in 2026. We are currently soliciting proposals to host the 2028 and 2030 congresses. In June, ISBI held its first webinar which was successfully presented by our previous President, Dr. Greenhalgh. The topic discussed was Surviving Sepsis. I encourage everyone to read Dr. Greenhalgh’s upcoming publication on Sepsis in our BURNS Journal. We are planning our next webinar this summer and we will announce the topic soon.
The ISBI is planning to host future topic-focused meetings in the year between our congresses as part of our objective to educate and train burn care professionals around the globe. Please let us know if you are interested in hosting such an event and give us topic ideas.
We have recently completed the revision of the ISBI Bylaws and Mission Statement which will soon be sent to the membership for review and vote to adapt during the General Assembly meeting in Birmingham.
The ISBI has recently signed an Memorandum of Understanding with Interburns and with Physicians for Peace in an effort to strengthen our relationships and support the work of NGOs that operate in burn care around the globe. We are already planning to assist Interburns in the delivery of their workshop this November in Senegal during the Pan African Burn Society Congress.
